Wow!! What a term! So much learning and fun!

Red Class particularly enjoyed our picnic day in the playground with all the mummies and daddies. Here are a few pictures to show from the special day...

Have a fantastic holiday everyone. Enjoy your children as a family together and let them know how well they have all done in their first ever term at school. #superstars :)

FS1 enjoyed National day

FS1 have loved learning all about the amazing UAE. We have especially enjoyed learning about the animals of the UAE and Sheikh Zayed, the founder of the UAE.

We went on a hunt around school for images of Sheikh Zayed, look at all the places we saw him. In the afternoon FS1 enjoyed exploring different classes around FS1 and did activities

Yellow class mystery readers

We have had lots of Mummy's and Daddy's come to read to us as mystery reader this term. We have loved sharing our favourite stories from home with the rest of Yellow class.

We have also learnt lots of new names over the past few weeks because we have had mystery readers from Al Yasmina SLT (senior leadership team) come to read to us.
Thank you to the Mummy's and Daddy's who came to read to us!!

If you have not been mystery reader yet and would like to be involved. Please email Mrs Farah in the new year to arrange a date.

Green Class Read Roises Walk

This week FS1 learnt a new story 'Roises Walk'. It is about a hen called Roise who goes on a walk but there is a sneaky fox who walks behind her and tries to catch her. At the end of the story he is chased away by bees and Roise is able to get home. Green Class enjoyed this story and joined in with actions to help us know what was happening in the story. Some of also get to help turn the pages. Can you tell what is happening in the story? Here are some photo's for you to enjoy!

FS1 Red Class- The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Red class have really enjoyed our first week of 'The Very hungry Caterpillar' this week and have had a special focus on new vocabulary. Alongside this area of learning in the story, they have enjoyed watching me 'nibble' through all the things the Hungry Caterpillar eats. The children have giggled lots whilst I've been doing this which was very cute to see.

They have even been practising to be Mrs. Dowland. Some children wanted to take it in turns to teach their friends some of the tricky words in the story; e.g. 'plum', 'salami', 'pickle' and 'cocoon'. They did a really good job! I think I'll sit back and let them take over next week!

Ashleigh trying to teach her students! It looks like she's pleased with the results! Thumbs up all round :)

Saif tries his skills at being the class teacher next. Look how hard he is concentrating!

Meera had the tricky challenge of teaching her little group the word 'cocoon'. She also did very well.

Wouldn't it be lovely if some of you did choose to be a teacher when you are all grown up?

FS1 White Class Physical Development

FS1 White class have had a fabulous time being outdoors developing our gross motor skills. Take a look and see. We have travelled along the lines in lots of different ways. We have even started to jump over them. We have had so much fun!

FS1 Outdoor Learning Environment!

We are very excited to be exploring more of our Outdoor Learning Environment! The children love to continue their learning even into the Outdoors. We have our bikes, cars and scooters, our climbing and balancing equipment, our construction area, our sand area, our chalk wall and lots of space for running, playing, imagining and creating. We are also developing quieter spaces for more learning opportunities. This week, children have had to balance and navigate their way around the blue tape lines. They have also been able to jump on or over the lines that got wider and trickier towards the end! Well done FS 1.

Yellow class are ICT geniuses

Beebots are small little robotic toys that can be programmed to move in different directions. This week Yellow class have LOVED learning how to turn on and off the Beebots and how to control them. We have played racing games and seen who can get to a certain places the quickest and who can make their Beebots travel between legs.
We have also been learning the skill of click and drag on the laptops. Last week we learnt how to do click and drag to move the correct sized clothes onto the correct size bears. We have been using them in the shared area to practice our skills, we have gotten very good.
We can play this game using this link at home.3 Bears Going Out Game.

Green Class paint 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'

What a busy week it has been. This week we have been learning all about a very hungry caterpillar and what he liked to eat. We then each chose a fruit or the caterpillar to paint. We applied our squiggle skills by painting different types of lines such as straight lines and circles. We also choose the colours that were the same as what we were painting from the story.

Here are some photos of what we did and also what we said about what we were doing.

Alexander said "I want this green paint for the hungry caterpillar."
Zain said "I'm painting plum. The colour is purple."
Sara said "I want to make orange."
Eren said "I'm making orange. Look so many orange."
Jordan said "I want to paint a pear and a strawberry too."

FS1 Red Class - Dear Zoo

FS1 Red class have been thoroughly enjoying their learning based on the the year group book 'Dear Zoo' this week. So far....they have re-told it to me using the pictures page by page, filled in the words I missed out for them, repeated recurring refrains and predicted which animals might fit into which box. They also loved learning the new vocabulary in the story e.g. fierce...then trying to give other examples of how we would use the word 'fierce'.  Mrs. Dowland: "Is a puppy fierce?" All: 'No!" Mrs. Dowland: "Is a tiger fierce?" All: "Yes!" Mrs. Dowland: "Is a snake fierce?"  All: ....(quiet...then a mixed response). We then discussed the difference between fierce and scary and they decided that tiger, lions, sharks are fierce and snakes and spiders are scary. It was a really deep and challenging discussion.

Well done Red class! I am so proud of you all and I look forward to where our discussions lead our learning next week.
FS1 White Class Math's Learning! We've been very busy this week learning to use the language of size in different ways in order to help us scaffold and embed our learning. We've used our bodies to make them taller, shorter bigger and smaller. We've looked for different sized shapes in the environment and started to compare and sort objects according to their size. Take a look at our slide show to see more!

Blue Class - Physical Development

In our Physical Development, we have been showing our teachers that we can climb confidently and safely. We have been exploring our outside area and developing our muscles by pulling ourselves up onto the equipment. FS 1 have been having loads of fun on the bicycles, cars and scooters, using our legs to make them go fast and slow. We even made a ramp with the blocks to go up and down.
We always look forward to P.E on Thursdays with Mr. Nation-Granger. We have had so much fun playing with the balls, hoops and bean bags, practicing our throwing and catching skills!

Yellow class - Creative marks

Yellow class have done amazingly at creating artistic masterpieces using some of their squiggle patterns. Check out some of our marks using straight lines, circles and arches.
We have also used lots of colours and been busy finding out what happens when we mix them. We painted our hands in different colours and then rubbed them together. Look what happened. The colours changed!!

We can't wait to draw some of the animals we see at the zoo next week.

Green Class - Phonics

Today we had to use our listening ears to find a small plastic animal. First we looked at the animals and described them to each other. Then we had to pick an animal from listening to sentences that described them. The sentences we listened to didn't name the animals so it was a little tricky. We were excellent at listening and found them! One of our groups even got to see a real beetle. We were so lucky as it isn't very often we see them at school. Can you see it in the picture?

White Class Communication and Language Focus

White Class have had a wonderful time reading 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?'  Our children explored the outdoor area and used their telescopes to hunt for animals from the Brown Bear story.  Children were asked, "Brown Bears, Brown Bears, What do you see?" We learned to reply in a full sentence, and say "I see a _ looking at me."
We see a purple cat! A PURPLE cat!
Look, there's a yellow duck in the playground!

Red Class - Squiggle While You Wiggle

In Red Class this week we have particularly enjoyed and been particularly skilled at using our dancing arms to go up, up, up and down, down, down for the straight line practise for writing, later progressing to the letters  'l', 'u', 'i' , 't' ...

We danced to the Jackson Five song A-B-C and then swapped our dancing arms for writing hands. Everyone did fantastically well. Well done Red Class!

Zayed went over to the writing table after to practise and show me, as did many other children. How lovely to consolidate new learning.

Yellow class- Literacy focus

This week we started our topic book 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear'. We have learnt the names of the animals and the colours from the story.

We have loved learning all the words and phrases of the story and we are really good at it. Mrs Farah was so impressed she even recorded us reading the story. We hope you enjoy listening to it.

Our books

Its been a really fun week and we have really enjoyed reading and learning the Brown Bear story. We are all excited about what we will be doing with the story next week.

Blue Class - Expressive Arts and Design

We have been busy learning all about colour!! We have been developing our skills in experimenting with blocks, colours and marks. We read a super story about a Chameleon and talked about how they can change colour. We used different colours of paint and paper plates to create our own colour changing Chameleons! Colour also links with our topic book this week; 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?' The children have been colouring and painting the different animals from the story, trying their best to match the colours to the book.
